This project sought to discover why NT writers did not describe Christian assemblies as "worship". The project's methodology analyzed fifteen NT assembly passages and the five NT Greek words that are translated as "worship." The study concluded that NT assemblies were primarily for mutual edification. Most assembly activities were horizontally oriented toward one another, although a few events were vertically oriented toward God. The Greek "worship" words largely pertained to temple activities, and the NT teaches that the sacrifice of Christ nullifies the temple and its ritual practices. Consequently, these Greek words did not apply to NT Christian meetings.
