Video games offer an alternate teaching method that depending on the students and subjects could be extremely useful and currently is not as widely accepted as it should be due to the nature of entertainment-based video games. Educational games should be explored more as an option for teaching as they are hyper interactive which is a huge benefit especially when teaching a younger audience that may not be as invested in learning. The goal of this study is to answer my research question, what types of features or characteristics attribute to certain video games success? This study attempts to answer this question by gathering lists top video games of 2019 for analysis. With a sample of top video games characteristics of these games were collected for further analysis through logistic regression to be run in an attempt of finding characteristics that attribute to successful games. This relates back to games in education, in that if characteristics were identified in attributing to their success an educational game could be designed with these characteristics in mind. With an educational game created with characteristics identified through the study, this game would ideally become successful showcasing games as useful educational tools.
