Baseball hitting has been coined as one of the hardest tasks in all of sports, with making contact as a "successful hit" 3 out of 10 times (.300) being considered elite. Research has indicated that there is a correlation between the successfulness of elite hitters and their visual-ocular pathway. Therefore, the aim of this research study was to identify the characteristics of decision-making on hitting mechanics with the inclusion of visual training and outcome measurements of biomechanical parameters and force production. An a priori statistical power analysis for a repeated measure, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to determine the needed sample size of this specific population. A total of 35 participants were recruited. Due to COVID, an entire baseball team of participants were excluded from the research study. Therefore, 14 total participants completed all testing sessions. All the data were analyzed with SPSS 24. A repeated measures 2 x 2 mixed factors ANOVA were run for each of the time categories for all the variables. Two interactions were found for time (pre/post) and group control group/Vision intervention group (CG/VG) for shoulder rotation and arm rotation at foot off. Follow-up t-tests were run and showed there was a significant increase in shoulder rotation for both the CG and VG while only the VG had a significant increase in arm rotation. From the results of this research study, the use of occlusion glasses would not be an effective tool for vision training or on-field performance. The results of this research study will be able to help further the research on baseball hitting, specifically in the realm of visual training.
