Trident University International - [2022]The purpose of this qualitative case study was to determine how leadership styles influence the delay of project execution and how they can be improved within the NBK FFR matrix organization. This research aimed to identify traits required to enhance effectiveness in complex matrix organizations. Other benefits of conducting this study included finding leadership traits to address and implement better communication effectively. Leadership has an essential role in the performance of any organization and is the key to improving execution in government-driven matrix organizations. Evaluation of the influence leadership styles have on successful execution within the NBK FFR matrix organization highlights the root causes of delays in project execution. To better understand this relationship, this study asked managers from NBK FFR levels across all programs to answer the following research questions: how do leadership styles influence project execution in the NBK FFR matrix structured organization and how can NBK FFR address the leadership style influence to resolve delays in project execution? These research questions were addressed through three separate data sets gathered through two different instruments, interviews, and questionnaires. This study was based on two theories: Hofstede's six dimensions of organizational culture and Lewin's 3-style model of leadership. The study involved nineteen participants and included two different instruments: interviews and questionnaires. The questionnaires were aimed at gathering the opinions of frontline and mid-level managers regarding leadership styles used in the NBK FFR organization and their effectiveness. Braun and Clarke's six-step process was used in the data analysis process. This research resulted in a total of six findings. The researcher found that success in project execution is strongly dependent on leadership style, access to quality information, a supportive work environment, appropriate management skills, and advanced technology. The researcher also found that future research is needed regarding organization culture at government-driven matrix organizations and knowledge management processes to support a successful matrix organization. The results of this study will contribute to a more successful operational and productive organizational success organization, leading to a better understanding of what type of leadership styles are most effective and how to implement them.
