Using public data as reported in 2019, the correlation between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and financial performance measures, as well as the correlation between market capitalization and financial performance measures were examined to provide executives in the retail sector with the information needed to make objective, strategic decisions. The target population was the 34 publicly traded retail companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which had CSR programs evaluated and scored by CSRHub. The research was grounded in the theoretical perspective of the Sustainability Balanced Scorecard Theory. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used when evaluating the relationship between the independent and the dependent variables. The correlation analysis revealed that there was no significant correlation between CSRHub score and market capitalization (p = 0.061, r = 0.324). A correlation between the CSRHub score and the net profit margin was identified (p = 0.032, r = 0.368); however, the correlation was too weak to be meaningful. There was a significant, positive correlation between market capitalization and goodwill value (p = 0.000, r = 0.873). This indicates that larger companies place significant value on their reputation, but CSR programs do not provide any significant contribution to the valuation of goodwill. Keywords: corporate social responsibility, correlation analysis, financial performance, net profit margin, goodwill, retail sector.
