A lot of attention has been given to teacher observation policies by federal, state, and local school districts. Interpretation, value, and experience all play a part in how policies are interpreted and implemented at the local school districts. Practice and policy are not always aligned. The overall goal and purpose of teacher observations is to provide opportunities for teachers to grow and develop quality instructional practices. For this to happen, the observation has to be done in a fashion that allows for teacher growth. Teachers need to receive continuous quality feedback that leads to in-depth professional development. This study examines teachers' and school leaders' perceptions of the current teacher observation system and then compares the practice with the perceptions. The major components found within the literature review and represented in the conceptual framework are teacher and principal perceptions of the role of the leader, observations, feedback, and professional development.A qualitative exploratory case study was conducted at a single school. The study was conducted within one academic year. The population for this study consisted of the teachers and the school leader of a public K-8 school in Southeast Louisiana. The data sources that were analyzed in this study were documents, interviews, and inventories for teachers. The data analysis and findings obtained were reported based on the major constructs of this study identified in the conceptual framework.
