This art-based heuristic self-inquiry addresses how early childhood art making explores themes of identity in individuals experiencing acculturation. Framed by an examination of research in identity formation, acculturation, arts education, and the Third Culture Kid experience, this inquiry's methodology utilizes early childhood artwork and response art to further explore these themes. The findings of this inquiry demonstrate the value of creative arts therapies for individuals seeking support in addressing themes of identity and acculturation. Access to art in educational or therapeutic settings throughout the course of development can be instrumental in supporting young children experiencing acculturation. This process is equally beneficial when engaged with in adulthood. As acculturative experiences become more common for young children (both globally and nationally), art therapy and engagement in art processes show a promising way to support individuals coping with the stressors and emotional implications of navigating multi-cultural landscapes.
