The goal of this study was to determine whether the local weather data was correlated to corresponding study sites' data and assess urban heat islands in a study area within Baton Rouge on spatial and temporal basis. The weather element used in the study was temperature. The study also compared corresponding temperature data from different data collection zone categories to establish correlations and trends. Three hypotheses were proposed for the study. Statistical analyses established strong correlations between weather data (temperature) and corresponding data collection sites values (shown in statistical analysis tables and graphs) with the probabilities less than 0.05. Corresponding data from different data collection stations was also found to be strongly correlated (p<0.05). Differences between corresponding mean temperatures under and outside tree canopies were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). The corresponding mean temperatures of data from similar classes from different locations was found to have no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Each hypothesis was examined, and findings concluded. The study has generated new insights on the local trends of Urban Heat Islands in southern Louisiana, and further studies will clarify and solidify these findings.
