This qualitative exploratory project explores the level of awareness, when, and where information was shared with patients regarding the oral-body link, and what behavior changes occurred from being informed. A triangulation of information was made from previously published research on oral-body link awareness, surveys collected from medical and/or dental professional providers, and adults from the general public age 18-64 years of age. The research framework used to align adult awareness, personal effects, and behavioral changes was the Social Cognitive Theory discovered by Albert Bandura. The medical and/or dental professional providers' (n=5) awareness was found in their professional education programs or on-the-job seminars; whereas the general public adults' (n=121), awareness came from their medical and/or dental professional providers, social media, and published information. All medical and/or dental professional providers had a behavior change due to awareness, whereas under half of the general public respondents' awareness prompted a behavior change. Based on the results, the researchers recommend the general public to learn about the oral-body link in a way to prompt a behavior change. The behavior change will only occur, according to Bandura, if the person possesses the oral literacy and motivation to make a change.
