The teacher/researcher has constructed a single participant study four-week student in which a 7-year old student, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, was the sole participant. The teacher/researcher wished to determine if an intervention that included a graphic organizer and retelling sentence framework was an effective approach to the comprehension problem that surrounds this particular student. The teacher/researcher relied on daily vocabulary introduction, a graphic organizer and sentence frameworks in order to assist the participating student in improving comprehension scores. At the same time, the teacher/researcher implemented a behavior modification Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) based reward system. Prior to the intervention, the student under study maintained a baseline comprehension score of 40%. Post intervention, the comprehension scores reached the level of 75%. In addition, the targeted behaviors of vocal stereotypy and off-task conduct did not decrease as a result of the new skills taught in the intervention. The teacher/researcher field notes indicated that the student had difficult attending for a variety of reasons, including consistency.
