The purpose of this quantitative correlational-predictive study was to analyze if and to what extent the underrepresented undergraduate STEM students' gender and perceptions of faculty leaders' mindset as growth or fixed predict their academic performance within a university in the Southwestern United States. The predictor variables underrepresented undergraduate STEM students' gender, were self-reported data while the perceptions of faculty leaders' mindset were measured using a mindset scale TIS by Dweck (2000). The criterion variable, the overall self-reported GPA scores were used as the measurable substitute for the student's academic performance variable. A convenience sample was used to collect data through the SurveyMonkey link. The final sample contained 181 participants. Growth mindset and teacher leadership theories were the theoretical foundation for which the two research questions were developed. A multiple linear regression analysis was utilized to test the hypotheses. A statistically non-significant prediction was revealed for research question one [F (2, 97) = 3.279, p > 0.025 with the Bonferroni correction, adj. R2 = 0.044] that was found between students' perceptions of faculty leaders' mindset as growth and their academic performance. Additionally, a statistically non-significant prediction was revealed for research question two [F (2, 78) = .203, p > 0.025 with the Bonferroni correction, adj. R2 = -.020], that was found between students' perceptions of faculty leaders' mindset as fixed and their academic performance. The null hypothesis was accepted for research questions one and two.
