In this study a group of eight women were gathered for the purpose of exploring drama therapy's potential to create an environment conducive to the creation of ritual. Nine consecutive sessions, including one introductory session were held. The participants were viewed as co-researchers and their input was solicited throughout the project. Each session dealt with a developmental stage of woman's life cycle. The stages chosen for this study were birth, young girlhood, first menstruation, woman as lover, woman in committed relationship, motherhood, menopause and woman as crone. Drama therapy was demonstrated to be an effective way of stimulating the creative process, a process, as discussed in this study, as integral to the creation of ritual in contemporary society. Ritual creation offers an expanded role to the healing work of the drama therapist.
