This study investigated the relationship between the Healthcare workers (HCW's) perception of their leader's, authentic leadership and the Healthcare workers own feelings of burnout, at Military Treatment Facilities (MTF's). In addition, the data also controlled for: Job Type (Direct Care and Non-Direct Care healthcare workers), Employee Type (Contract and Non-Contract employees), Location (Hospital and Clinic), Gender (Male and Female), Age Range and Tenure Range. The research data collected implied a noteworthy, negative relationship between Internalized Moral Perspective of Authentic Leadership and burnout for Emotional Exhaustion and Depersonalization (Cynicism) and a positive relationship between Balanced Processing and Personal Accomplishment (Occupational Self Efficacy). Another significant predictor was the demographic independent control variable of Job Type (Direct Patient Care - those employees that have direct patient encounters for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment) of a patient and (Non-Direct Patient Care - those employees that mostly deal with administrative and prescriptive duties) of a patient (U.S. Department of Labor, n.d.). This research was collected pre-COVID 19 and may serve as a tool to educate leaders at MTF's on factors related to HCWs perceptions of authenticy in their leaders that can reduce burnout, while also contributing to the body of scholarly work in this area.
