There is an abundance of research supporting parent-implemented intervention as an evidence-based intervention technique that is effective with children with various diagnoses (DeVeney, Hagaman, & Bjornsen, 2017; Tosh, Arnott, & Scarinci, 2017). Despite this acknowledgment, research has also demonstrated that the intervention is often not being used in clinical practice and graduate students are not being offered adequate opportunities to gain experience with the intervention (Dunst, Bruder, & Espe- Sherwindt, 2014; Francois, Coufal, & Subramanian, 2015).In the current study, clinical educators in university and non-university settings were invited to participate in online focus groups exploring their personal knowledge and use of parent-implemented intervention as well as their teaching of the intervention to graduate students. The majority of the participants in both settings had knowledge of parent-implemented intervention and taught the intervention to the graduate students they supervised. They highlighted important barriers to teaching the graduate students such as their experience and confidence and emphasized the need for hands-on opportunities to bridge the gap between what is learned academically and what is applied clinically.
