Thesis (Ph.D.)--Stanford University, 2021.

In this thesis, we investigate quantum and stringy phenomena that allow infalling information to escape a black hole. The mechanisms we present are limited in their scope, either requiring a special black hole or a special infaller, but they are also highly transparent and tractable. Rather than address the monumental question of black hole unitarity, we instead focus on special cases where the mechanisms of information recovery can be precisely understood.
