The purpose of this paper is to examine the issue of telehealth in the past, current, and future states, specifically in relation to healthcare settings. Telehealth has increasingly become a concern for the healthcare industry and especially in the last two years through the COVID-19 pandemic. This thesis paper consists of a literature review and analysis of current legislation, proposes a solution for the future of telehealth in healthcare - especially in the rural settings. Both the terminology of telehealth, along with the history, will be defined to help better understand where the industry is today and how it will help patients in the future - post COVID-19. Topics will also be explored surrounding how to ensure that privacy and security of telehealth remains safe through the many types of programs available. The conclusion of the thesis will discuss the economic importance of telehealth in the current age - an environment that includes COVID-19, the rising costs of healthcare, and the shortage of providers in certain rural geographic areas throughout the United States.
