The purpose of this quantitative research study was to examine adverse childhood experiences, adult attachment, and empathy in school social workers. Several forms of statistical analysis were used in this quantitative study. These included descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), multiple regression, and an analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results of the MANOVA indicated statistical significance results in secure, F (4, 216) = 3.204, p = .014, partial eta squared = .056, dismissing F (4, 216) = 3.031, p = .018, partial eta squared = .053, fearful F (4, 216) = 6.210, p = .000, partial eta squared = .103, and preoccupied, F (4, 216) = 4.546, p = .002, partial eta squared = .078. There is a reported statistical significance for adult attachment and adverse childhood experiences. Results from the multiple regression indicated secure attachment predicted empathy, F(4,216) = 6.267, p <.000 with an R2 of .104. Secure added statistical significance at p <.05. Dismissive (.182), fearful (.799) and preoccupied (.668) attachment did not predict empathy, F(4,216) = 6.267, p .05 which were not significant. Secure attachment was the best predictor of empathy. Results of the ANOVA indicated no relationship between ACEs groups determined by the one-way ANOVA, F(4, 216) = .447, p = .774. At this time, ACEs does not have an impact empathy in school social workers.
