Harvesting energy from ambient sources is an interesting form of renewable source of energy. As sound vibrations are mechanical vibrations, they can be transform into electricity through piezoelectricity. However, the output power from acoustic energy harvesting is usually low and hard to achieve. After recalling some harvesting techniques found in the scientific community, an efficient acoustic energy harvester producing electricity from low frequency sound waves is presented. The acoustic energy harvester unit (AEHU) is composed of three parts. An enhancing part designed to enhance the acoustic pressure of the sound source by shortening its wavelength. A confining part confining the sound wave energy. A converting part achieving the electromechanical conversion. Numerical simulations are presented to obtain optimal parameters for the AEHU. Experimental results are discussed to present a more efficient AEHU. This master thesis opens for research works and optimization processes to further improve the proposed design of an AEHU.
