Sensation and perception are fundamental to how we interact with our surroundings and others. By investigating our ability and capacity to sense, we may better understand human and machine perceptions. This thesis examines how the use of signal processing, augmented reality and wearable technology enhances our audiovisual experience. First, we propose methods to produce a more immersive auditory experience by increasing the dynamic range of the audio signal through HDR signal processing. Next, we explore how augmented reality techniques for visualizing otherwise invisible phenomena are useful for studying, understanding, and interacting with these phenomena. Lastly, we propose methods and algorithms that investigate the relationship of steady-state visually evoked potential responses and the visual field of the human eye with an electroencephalogram device. By tapping into wearable technology, we realize an affordable and accessible solution for auditory and vision-related personalized health care and assistive technologies.
