Students who come to the United States for a new experience in international education may face a very different reality that can lead to complex challenges and struggles in adjustment. Much of the discussion surrounds their ability to effectively adapt to a new culture and to acknowledge the importance of a strong support system to reduce fear, anxiety, isolation, and other emotions that may be part of the international student experience. For deaf international students, the problem may be even greater because of language and communication barriers that result to limited information access before and after leaving their native country. Hence, it is important to address deaf students' experiences in a new country when they cannot hear the world around them. The unfamiliar experiences that they go through are termed as culture shock. The focus of this research is to examine the culture shock and adaptation of deaf international students go through in post-secondary institutions.
