The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry research study explored initiatives, influences and impacts of successful leadership behaviors used in restorative justice programs. Behaviors identified were leadership traits that fit within an effective restorative justice program. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview script from 10 participants employed in restorative justice programs located in Texas. All interviews were completed using electronic Zoom or telephonic recording. Data were analyzed using McCormack's four lenses. First, the researcher focused on the words people used, followed by word patterns. Next, the context was based on the participant's perceptions. And finally, moments of excitement were manifested when a new meaning was recognized. Data analysis then continued using thematic coding. Word groups were identified and codes were assigned. Codes were grouped into categories, which revealed three themes: Empowerment through Inclusivity, Confidence and Trust; Teamwork/Collaboration through Dedication, Passion, and Communication; and Leadership which was Mission Driven, Individualized, Consistent and Fair. When leaders and followers used positive attributes to change the lives of others; a positive change in the community occurred and the workforces were more dedicated and devoted to the mission of the organization. Future research should explore restorative justice leadership outside of the State of Texas or using a quantitative method.
