Purpose. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore and describe the approaches, strategies, and challenges successful women entrepreneurs in Los Angeles County used to start, grow, and sustain their businesses for more than five years. Methodology. This study sought to investigate the lived experiences of women entrepreneurs in Los Angeles County. This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach in which 15 women entrepreneurs participated in in-depth interviews asking about their experiences starting, growing, and sustaining a business. Findings. Nine major findings emerged from the data. These included building a networking relationship with investors, understanding profit margins for business growth, implementing competitive business techniques for customer retention, knowing the industry, and buying inventory in phases. Additionally, entrepreneurs must deliver on customer expectations and have tenacity to achieve the five-year benchmark. Conclusions. Based on the research findings of this study and connected to the literature, nine conclusions were drawn that bestow deeper insight into women entrepreneurs and the role of developing successful businesses reaching the five-year benchmark within Los Angeles County, California. Recommendations. Further research is recommended to expand upon the understanding of women entrepreneurs sustaining business for more than five years.
