Within the past two decades, the U.S. Hispanic population has doubled to 58 million, creating both the largest minority population and the primary force driving changing demographics. Regardless of the growth experienced within the U.S. Hispanic population, Latinas often experience educational, health care, and economic obstacles. Because of these obstacles. Latinas face a lack of career equality and success, often earning less than their White counterparts. Although much literature addresses these disparities, there is a shortage of literature regarding how Latinas describe these challenges and how they impact career success. The purpose of this qualitative, descriptive, phenomenological design was to understand better the factors that impacted Latina's career success in the United States. By interviewing 10 participants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, specific themes became apparent. Participants perceived drive and resiliency, models and mentors, self-advocacy, and networking as influencers of career success. Participants also perceived that education levels and academic achievement as positively impacting career success. Personal motivation was found to be a positive influencer on career success, especially when applied to overcoming underrepresentation, success as service, and prioritizing work amongst other responsibilities. Finally, participants defined career success as the enjoyment of work, helping others, and receiving rewards and recognitions. The findings of this study demonstrated that Latina women achieve career success through resiliency and motivation to support themselves, their family, and the community. This study contributed valuable understanding to the critical race theory and existing policymakers and authorities within U.S. education, political, and industrial organizations. Future researchers should investigate the motivators, facilitators, and obstacles Latina women continually face in differing workplace and educational settings.
