This thesis aims to explore the impact that YouTube, as a social media platform, has in facilitating Parasocial Interactions (PSI) and Relationships (PSR) between consumers and YouTubers. This thesis looks at the predictors of PSR, the moderators of PSR and PSI, and the ways these interactions and relationships manifest themselves with YouTubers and their audiences. The interplay between PSI and PSR and their effect on audiences is explored through testing for these phenomena (PSI and PSR) separately and seeing how the resulting perceptions among audience members compare. The purpose of this study is to gauge whether or not a strong parasocial relationship manifests itself as a result of trust and relatability working together, or if one variable is a more significant predictor of PSR formation. Investigations on the measures and the phenomenon of PSI and PSR were also investigated.
