User Experience (UX) research methods have been used by designers to understand the needs of the users. Designers use different research methods to determine problems faced by the user and get in their mindset. In this study, we employ the use of UX research methods to develop a story for a 2D animated video to generate empathy for people with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). We conducted a survey with 187 participants to collect information from the people about their experiences with the disorder and used the information to form a storyline for the animation. We conducted a second survey with 143 participants who watched the animation first and then answered questions about their understanding of SAD. The second survey was to determine if we were able to use the medium of animation to generate empathy among people. We collected qualitative and quantitative data in both the surveys and by analyzing the collected data we were able to determine that we can use UX research methods to develop a storyline for an animation on Social Anxiety Disorder to generate empathy in people who do not suffer from it. We suggested that further study can be conducted to raise awareness about different mental health disorders. This study hopes to provide helpful information about the different factors that can affect empathy.
