The themes presented in this thesis are an exploration of the embodied-ness of our nature and how it is affected by the structures that define existence. I also touch on aspects of post-World War II architecture and the artistic influences that have affected my thinking, and the direction that my work has taken in recent years.Indeed, much of my concern has to do with the relationship of the body to architecture, in particular the corporeal experience as it relates to movement, efficiency, and issues around labor and shelter. In this thesis, I examine the ways in which such themes have given rise to my practice and its focus on community, alienation, and the urban space.What this thesis and video project explore are the many dimensions that capitalism, hope, cost, and the residues of relentless attempts at improvement have had on physical spaces and the individual spirit.
