This study examined a sample of Vietnamese mothers living in four locations in Vietnam (two rural villages, a transitional village, and a small city). Hypothesis 1 stated that maternal attachment will be significantly and positively correlated with women's understanding of the importance (referred to as attitudes) of breastfeeding; Hypothesis 1 was not supported. Hypothesis 2 stated there will be significant differences between three regions on women's attitudes about breastfeeding. Significant differences existed between three villages on women's attitudes about breastfeeding. Hypothesis 3 stated there will be significant differences between three regions on women's attitudes about maternal attachment; this hypothesis was not supported. Hypothesis 4 stated the women who breastfeed will have significantly higher maternal attachment attitudes in comparison to the women who do not breastfeed; this hypothesis was not supported. Findings in this study showed that women in the transition village of Ha Trung had the most ideal attitudes regarding breastfeeding practices. Women in the city of Hue had the next most ideal attitudes regarding breastfeeding. And women from the small village of Co Tu had the least ideal attitudes about breastfeeding. Results of this study were widely varied and some did not yield significance.
