It is people who throughout the ages developed and achieved, those people, I celebrate in my art. Their lives throughout the ages, living, loving and warring, and by doing so populating the lands. I am from the West European Low Lands, and the focus of my art is first on those of whom I am a descendant, and in a larger context people from the Eurasian land mass and beyond. In my art, I make reference to the humble beginnings of those who first walked upright in Africa. In my work I honor the people from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age; as they left behind artifact/art hat testify of their artistic achievements. In my work I honor those who reinvented art in the 2000 years Anno Domini. I am a contemporary of all those who have been. I am an artist living in a world where traditional cultures are being redefined by progress at a global scale; as I and people all over this world potentially becoming part of a one-unified global culture. A global culture, based on consumerism, guided by smart advertising, directing people's lives at a global scale to benefit mega companies such as Disney, Nike, Google, Apple, Audi and Huawei; and in the process reshaping people's expectations and outlook on life. My awareness of a potentially unified global culture, causing the erosion of traditional cultures and heritages; along with my love for art is what makes me search for my cultural roots and heritage; I express this by sculpting in clay, stylized figures honoring both the ancient and contemporary cultures and their heritages, that is fired into durable ceramic art, which has the potential to endure time.
