In-depth analysis of gene expression data enables the discovery of new gene causal relationships and gene functions. Specifically, gene regulatory network (GRN) inference can be used to identify the key regulatory factors and structural properties of a biological system. This thesis describes the application of gene expression analysis in plant biology. A new user-friendly software tool has been developed for use by scientists interested in utilizing gene expression data and GRN inference and has been applied to investigate specific biological questions. Further, the role of gene expression and cell-to-cell communication in the maintenance and modification of plant development has been explored via integrative application of both computational gene expression analysis and cutting-edge 3D bioprinting technology.
