The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of a school-based youth physical activity intervention on the Body Mass Index (BMI) of middle and high school male students in an all-boys urban school setting. As part of this research study, the researcher conducted a secondary data analysis of data collected from a school-based physical activity intervention program that was implemented during the 2018-19 school year. The school-based youth physical activity intervention program was implemented through a 90-minute physical activity-based physical education course during a nine-week implementation period. During the nine-week physical activity intervention, the pre and post-intervention Body Mass Index of the 191 total participants were measured. The mean pre and post-intervention BMI of the participants were analyzed to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The mean BMI of the 191 participants decreased from 23.6 kg/m2 (SD = 5.38) to 23.0 kg/m2 (SD = 4.82), 97 middle school participants decreased from 22.2 kg/m2 (SD = 5.25) to 21.8 kg/m2 (SD = 4.68), and 94 high school participants decreased from 25.0 kg/m2 (SD = 5.02) to 24.4 kg/m2 (SD = 4.67). As part of the data analysis associated with this study, a one-way ANOVA was performed to identify the statistical significance of the mean BMI of the participants during pre-intervention and post-intervention of the school-based physical activity intervention program. The one-way ANOVA performed at a significance level of 0.05 produced a p value of .246 for the total participants, .381 for the middle school participants and .417 for the high school participants.
