Economic turmoil is often a consistent factor for vulnerable populations that seek assistance from social work professionals. These struggles often result in symptoms of financial stress. There is a dearth of studies related to the levels of financial literacy of professional social workers. The purpose of this study is to assess social workers' financial literacy knowledge and to examine their perceived relevance of financial literacy to professional social work practice. The study population for this study included bachelor's and master's prepared social work professionals who are currently employed by the National Counseling Group in the state of Virginia. This study used primary data and collected 48 questionnaires via a digital platform. In this study, independent variables of financial well-being, financial experience, and financial relevance were jointly analyzed with moderators to determine how they predicted change in the dependent variable financial literacy. The findings of this study support the conclusion that social work professionals have limited awareness of how financial realities of their clients may negatively affect their overall mental health and how financial dilemmas intertwine with the client's social problems. The findings revealed that financial experience was the only statistically significant predictor of financial literacy. Lastly, based on the findings infusing financial literacy content into social work practice may improve the ongoing disconnect of how financial hardships may shape the overall mental health of financially fragile clients.
