It has been substantiated that Black boys who are labeled early in preschool, as having either emotional or behavioral problems and subsequently are then referred for special education services. Unfortunately, the problem does not end here, it continues with these boys throughout their educational career. Exploring preschool teachers' considerations (cultural and racial) when making referrals to special education, additionally, what they define as aggressive, a term often labeled on Black boys. A review of the literature reveals systemic racial inequalities of special education referrals, teacher's implicit bias, and discriminatory special education practices for Black boys attending special education classrooms. To shed a new perspective on how to re-mediate age-old practices, this study was conducted to provide realistic solutions to educate Black boys outside the current failing system.
