Parental alienation can be an emotionally disturbing phenomenon for those involved. Not only are the families contending with the stress and possible toxicity of a divorce, separation, or unhealthy relationship; there may be the added variable of a child or children being alienated from a targeted parent who has done nothing to warrant the alienation. The purpose of this research was to capture the lived experience of divorced or separated fathers who had been alienated from their children. This phenomenological qualitative research encompassed semi-structured one-on-one interviews with 11 divorced or separated fathers who reported being alienated from their children. The sample selected came from varying demographics and age groups. ATLAS.ti 8 qualitative research software generated four dominant themes in their shared experience. The themes included the injustice of the judicial system, intense emotions experienced, unfair treatment, and significant change in their life and personality due to the alienation. Although these themes frequently presented themselves throughout the captured interviews, further research is necessary to target a larger population and gain greater insight into the phenomenon of alienated fathers.
