Hacking back has been a much debated topic in the cybersecurity community. The debate usually involves the issue of attribution. By improperly identifying the attacker, hacking back can cause unintended damage. This argument, however, jumps to an unsubstantiated conclusion, while failing to address if whether those who are attacked have a right to hack back. Throughout history, individuals have relied on the fact that self-defense is a natural right. The United States Constitution, more specifically the Second Amendment, has helped preserve that right. As technology continues to grow and advances are made, so must the tools used to protect individual rights.
