The purpose of this dissertation is to provide a new predictive model of conflict (war) through new research and mixed-method analysis of three demographic cohorts - men, mass (population density) and war so that elites and decision-makers can make prudent future decisions. As the panel and case-study data is produced and then analyzed using quantitative (regression) and qualitative (fuzzy-set comparative case analysis, pathway tracing) techniques, it becomes clear that the "conventional wisdom" associated with modern conflict which lays much of the blame for that conflict and violence at the feet of one cohort (military age males) may be resulting in insufficient consideration to the other possibilities. In fact, through the use of several phases and types of data analysis - exploratory (EDA), as well as the aforementioned in-depth quantitative and qualitative - it is determined that the casual relationships previously accepted (between conflict and men/conflict and population density) must be set aside and the possibility of an explanatory female cohort be considered. At its conclusion, the implications and possibilities provided by such a new explanatory variable and its predictive model are examined and lessons for the future identified.
