The existence of ghosts is not discussed here. The perceptions of people who have had what they deem as paranormal experiences believe they witnessed something unexplainable. In order to properly engage with the community of paranormal believers, who are named paranormalists in this work, one must adhere to the cultural expectations of paranormalism and accept the possibility of the paranormal, ghosts, psychics, mediums, etc., as true. Paranormalism is created, maintained, and perpetuated through the watching of reality ghost hunting media, the acceptance of the technology and methods used in the shows and films as legitimate and viable, and the emulation of the hosts" pseudoscientific manner of investigation at recreational ghost hunts. Further, paranormalism requires ritualistic performative storytelling among its members at their typical places of interactions specifically recreational ghost hunts. The recounting of paranormal experiences is the lifeblood that fuels paranormalism. Not only is how the story told prescribed but also how the listener responds. This set manner of interaction is ritualistic in nature as every conversation is structured and expressed in the same way. These accounts will be retold and perpetuated through later interactions between paranormalists in an identical manner, though the points of emphasis may change with the teller. This sharing of stories maintains the paranormal believers' culture. Stories and legends lead paranormalists to certain allegedly haunted locations, just as they do in reality ghost hunting media. The visit to the location allows paranormalists to engaged directly with the material aspects of the stories and the possibility of witnessing the more ethereal features as well. With each of these hunts more accounts are claimed and reported, each hunt provides a venue for paranormalist nteraction and story sharing, thus adding to the lore of the location and the understanding of others' experiences breathing new life into the culture to be told again and again at other meetings of paranormalists. Paranormalists can engage in the story of a place or of a paranormal experience to become legend.
