Over the years, my wife Carolee and I have enjoyed traveling, particularly by car. In recent years, we have indulged ourselves with our biannual trips back and forth between New Hampshire and southern California. My thesis consists of a series of articles concerning places which we have visited on our travels and which we have found of interest or significance for one reason or another, but which may not have rated the attention of the travel writers of the Sunday Times (either New York or Los Angeles). Each article gives a description of its subject and a discussion of what drew us to it, why we found it of interest or significance and the lessons we learned from it. The thesis also contains a section dealing with a traveling companion we bring with us on our transcontinental hegiras.
