Aging while parenting a child with an Intellectual Disability (IDD) is no easy feat, yet parents continue to do so as they age. Fifteen parents, age 60 years or older, the primary caregiver for, and currently living with their child with an IDD, were interviewed for this qualitative study. Findings revealed that parents feel fortunate for their child and their caregiving role. While worry and stress have impacted their lives, a majority reported this stress being offset by having a positive outlook. In thinking of their future, all of the caregivers reported feeling scared about who would take over the caregiving role upon their death. Caregivers recommend that entities, such as the Regional Center provide future planning guidance and resources, and that public or private specialized case managers be available to manage their child's future care. Due to the qualitative nature of this study, the findings cannot be generalized.
