Many studies have evaluated the effects of self-monitoring and public posting on performance in sport and school settings with the additional variables of financial and/or academic reinforcement. The efficacy of these interventions without such additional contingencies has not been studied; thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a self-monitoring and self-reporting treatment package on dart players' three-dart averages. By including participants in a casual league with no financial gains for performance, these confounding variables were avoided. During the study, participants agreed to practice five days per week, track their performance, and share their performance via e-mail with teammates. The results suggest that the self-monitoring and public posting package without additional reinforcement contingencies did not have consistent effects on increasing three-dart averages.
