The unlicensed spectrum offers tremendous opportunities for mobile network operators (MNOs), whose traffic can be offloaded from licensed bands to unlicensed ones. To realize these opportunities, three new technologies have been proposed: LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U), 4G LTE Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA), and 5G New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U). Although unlicensed spectrum seems attractive to MNOs, its access is fraught with many challenges that need to be addressed. These include coexistence with legacy unlicensed technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, fairness in channel access, and supporting a desired level of quality of service (QoS) in a shared-spectrum environment. Addressing these challenges is critical for achieving harmonious coexistence between various technologies. In this dissertation, we design resource management algorithms and channel access protocols to overcome these challenges. We mainly focus on issues arising in three scenarios: (1) coexistence between Listen-Before-Talk (LBT), e.g., Wi-Fi, and non-LBT systems, e.g., LTE-U, (2) coexistence within LBT systems (e.g., 4G LTE LAA, 5G NR-U, and Wi-Fi), and (3) resource allocation for LBT systems sharing a common network infrastructure (e.g., 5G NR-U and Wi-Fi). For the first scenario, we develop a cross-technology detection scheme that allows LBT devices to concurrently transmit over and sense the channel, a.k.a., full-duplex (FD) sensing. This will reduce the impact of collisions between LBT and non-LBT devices. LBT devices can then detect collisions with non-LBT devices earlier, allowing them to react properly by pausing transmission and preventing interference. We develop a framework based on Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) that allows FD-enabled LBT devices to mitigate interference generated by non-LBT devices. By following a POMDP policy, LBT devices can jointly adapt their transmission rates and duplex mode based on their belief about interference caused by non-LBT devices. Although enabling LBT devices with FD capabilities helps mitigate cross-technology interference, it makes the provisioning of QoS harder. Traditional QoS provisioning frameworks are designed to support half-duplex operation. Accordingly, we present a framework, called AFD-QoS, for provisioning of QoS in an FD network. AFD-QoS incorporates FD-based Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (FD-EDCA) and FD-based Block Acknowledgement (FD-BA) schemes to achieve its goals. For the second scenario, we investigate the fair setting of LBT parameters, e.g., contention windows, airtime, etc., and the harmonious setting of their sensing thresholds (STs). To support different QoS applications, e.g., voice, video, etc., LBT systems define multiple channel access classes with different settings. To study the interplay between these classes, we develop a Markov-based model and derive key performance measures, including probability of successful transmission, average channel access delay, and effective throughput for each class. We first discuss how the heterogeneous setting of channel access parameters across traffic classes leads to unfairness in channel access. Our study pinpoints some settings that need to be optimized to ensure fairness. We then discuss the heterogeneity due to having fixed and asymmetric configurations of ST values among different devices, which results in different sensing floors and gives rise to hidden and exposed terminals. To reduce collisions and improve frequency reuse, we investigate distributed learning solutions for adapting the ST values based on the observed environment. We develop a novel clustering-based multi-armed bandit framework, called Sense-Bandits, to perform such adaptation in real time, aiming at boosting the overall network throughput.Finally, we investigate the challenges arising when MNOs run 5G NR-U services over a shared network infrastructure. Ensuring fairness and efficient allocation of network resources among MNOs are challenging due to communication overhead and privacy concerns. To resolve these issues, we introduce a novel framework, called MatchMaker, which extends the 3GPP network sharing model to a cloud-based 5G NR-U system. We define new interfaces and messages for facilitating private NR-U operation over managed and shared network infrastructure. According to MatchMaker, the network manager runs a Graph Coloring Evolution (GCE) algorithm to learn potential interference between operators and match them with channel resources.

520 $a تعاني شبكاتُ الاتصالاتِ الخلويةِ من نقصٍ حادٍ في وفرةِ القنواتِ الراديويةِ ذاتِ الطيفِ المرخّص، وذلكَ بسببِ كثرةِ الشبكات اللاسلكيّةِ العاملةِ عليها، إلا أنّ وفرةَ الطيفِ المجانيّ معفيٍ الترخيص يشكلُ مصدراً هاماً لردءِ هذا النقص، إذ يمكنُ لمشغلي الشبكاتِ الخلويةِ تحويلُ العديدِ منْ بياناتِ عملائِهم عبرَ هذهِ القنواتِ المجانيّة، وذلكَ دونَ الحصولِ على أيّة تراخيصَ مسبقةٍ من هيئاتِ الاتصالِ المعنية، ولتحقيق هذا الهدفِ المنشود، عملَت العديدُ من لجانِ الاتصالِ اللاسلكي العالميةِ على تطويرِ معاييرَ وتقنياتٍ جديدةٍ لدعمِ هذا النوعِ منَ الاتصال، ونتجَ عن هذا الجهد الدؤوب أنظمةٌ خلويةٌ جديدة تدعمُ تشغيلَ الشبكاتِ الخلوية على الطيفِ معفي الترخيص، مثل: شبكة الجيل الرابع ذات التطور طويل الأمد معفية الترخيص، وشبكة الجيل الرابع ذات التطور طويل الأمد للولوج المدعم بالطيف المرخص، وشبكة الجيل الخامس الراديوية الجديدة معفية الترخيص. فيُعدُّ الطيفُ معفي الترخيص واحداً من أهم عناصرِ نجاحِ الشبكاتِ المستقبلة، مثل: شبكة الجيل الخامس والجيل السادس، ولكنّ الكثير من التحديات تحول دون استغلال هذا الطيف المجانيّ بالشكل الأمثل، ومِن أبرزِ هذه التحديات، وأكثرِها أهميةً: معالجةُ التشويشِ الناتجِ عن تشاركِ الشبكاتِ الخلويّة للطيفِ مع الشبكاتِ اللاسلكية الأخرى، كالشبكات اللاسلكية المحلية (الواي فاي)، والشبكات اللاسلكية الخاصة (البلوتوث)، إلخ. ويعدّ تطويع هذه التحديات من أهم الأولويات للوصول الى تشاركٍ عادلٍ للطيف وتعايش متناغم بين جميع أنواع الشبكات العاملة عليه.نقدم في هذه الاطروحة مجموعةً من الخوارزمياتِ وبروتوكولاتِ الاتصال؛ تفعيلاً للتشاركِ النوعي والعادلِ للطيف معفي الترخيص، ووفقاً للمباحثَ الثلاثة التالية: أولاً: ندرسُ مسألةَ التشارك العادل والتعايش الطيفي عندما يكون التشاركُ حاصلاً بين أنظمة اتصالٍ غير متجانسة، كأن تعملَ أحد الشبكات بمبدأ الاستماع قبل الإرسال، في حين تتجاهل الأخرى الاستماع قبل الإرسال، ثانياً: ندرسُ مسألةَ التشارك العادل والتعايش الطيفي عندما تكون أنظمةُ الاتصالِ متجانسةً من حيث آليةِ استخدامِ القناة، كمبدأ الاستماع قبل الارسال، إلاّ أنّها تعتمد على إعدادات مختلفة، ثالثاً: نبحثُ في مسألةِ تشاركِ معداتِ وقنواتِ الاتصال بين مشغلي الشبكاتِ الخلويةِ بناءً على عمل شبكة الجيل الخامس الراديوية الجديدة معفيّة الترخيص.أولاً: المبحثُ الأول: نقوم بتصميم آلية تسمح لأجهزة الاتصال القيام بالاستماع والإرسال بشكل متزامن، فيما يعرف اصطلاحاً بالإرسال والاستماع المزدوج، حيث تمكنُ هذه الآلية الجديدة أجهزةَ الاتصال من تحديد التداخلات والتشويش مع الأجهزة الأخرى بشكل سريع، وتلافي الآثار السلبية للتشويش بشكل مبكر، مما يضمن لها أداءً أفضل، ونقدم أيضاً خوارزمية للتحكم بسرعة الاتصال و ازدواجيته بناءً على مبدأ رياضي يعرف بعمليات (ماركوف) لاتخاذ القرار بمشاهدات جزئية، ورغم أن هذا الآليات والخوارزميات تحسن من أداء الشبكات وتقلل التشويش بينها، إلا ان الاعتماد على الإرسال المزدوج يضفي مزيداً من التحديات الأخرى، كتلك المتمثلة بضمان نوعية الاتصال؛ و ذلك لأنّ أغلب بروتوكولات الاتصال المستخدمة حالياً تدعم نوعية الاتصال وفقاً للإرسال أحادي الازدواج، لذا فإننا نقدم في هذا المحور بروتوكولات اتصالٍ جديدةٍ تدعمُ نوعية الاتصال وفق الإرسال المزدوج، وذلك من خلال تحسين آلية الاستخدام العشوائي لقناة الاتصال، ودعم تأكيد استلام الرسائل في بيئة إرسال مزدوج.ثانياً: المبحثُ الثاني:نقدم تحليلاً رياضياً بالاعتمادِ على سلاسل (ماركوف) لفهم أثر إعدادات آلية الاستماع قبل الإرسال على التشارك العادل لقناة الاتصال، كطول نافذة الانتظار، و طول مدة الإرسال، و قيمة ثابت الاستشعار، إلخ، ومن الجدير بالذكر أن تقنيات الاتصال العاملة على الطيف معفي الترخيص تعتمد على قيم مختلفة لهذه الإعدادات، لدعم نوعية خدمات الاتصال المختلفة، كالمكالمات الصوتية و المرئية، ومشاهدة المقاطع المرئية، وتحميل الملفات و البيانات، إلخ. تكمنُ المشكلة في الشبكات المختلفة أنّها قد تعتمد قيماً مختلفة لهذه الإعدادات، مما ينجم عن ذلك تشاركٌ غيرُ عادلٍ بين الشبكاتِ العاملة على نفس القناة، لذا فإنّنا نركزُ في هذه المحور على فهم المشاكل المتوقعة لاعتمادِ التقنياتِ المختلفة لقيم غير متجانسةٍ لهذه الإعدادات، وضرورةِ إعادة ضبطها بشكل أمثل لضمان التشارك العادل. إن اعتمادَ قيم غير متجانسة لثابت الاستشعار يؤدي أيضاً إلى عدم تماثل لمدى الاستشعار بين الشبكات المختلفة، وينجم عنه مشاكل متعددةٍ كمشكلة "الجهاز المتخفي"، والذي ينتج عنه الكثير من التصادم بين الإرساليات، وذلك بسبب تخفي الأجهزة عن بعضها البعض، و عدم قدرتها على الإحساس بوجود بعضها للآخر، و على النقيض تماماً مشكلة "الجهاز المعترض"، حيث أن بعض هذه الأجهزة تصبح أكثر تحفظاً لئلا تقوم بالإرسال، و ذلك بسبب اعتمادها قيم متدنية لثابت الاستشعار، مما يجعل القناة تبدو دوماً مشغولة ولا يمكن استخدامها.
520 $a إن ضبط قيم ثوابت الاستشعار أمر صعب؛ لاعتماده على عدة عوامل دائمة التغير؛ لذا فإننا نقدم آلية مبنية على الذكاء الاصطناعي لإتاحة التحكم بثابت الاستشعار بشكل منفرد وموزع، من خلال تمكين الأجهزة المختلفة أن تتعلم قيمة ثابت الاستشعار الأمثل بشكل موزع بناءً على خوارزمية ذكاء صناعي تعرف بخوارزمية (اختيار الأذرع ذات الواقع المصنّف).ثالثاً: المبحث الثالث:وفيه ندرس التحديات المتعلقة بتشارك معدات وقنوات الاتصال بين مشغلي الشبكات الخلوية العاملة على الطيف معفي الترخيص، وذلك وفقاً لتقنية شبكةِ الجيلِ الخامسِ الراديويةِ الجديدةِ معفيةِ الترخيص، ويحتاج التشارك في معدات الاتصال إلى منهجية عادلة وفعالة تضمن التقسيم العادل لقنوات الاتصال والمرور والذي يرعى بدوره الخصوصيةَ لكل جهة، كما ينبغي لهذه المنهجية أن تكون فعالة في مشاركة الموارد و تقليل التواصل اللازم بين الأطراف المتواصلة. وكذلك نقوم بتعريف بروتوكولات جديدة لدعم مثل هذه النوع من التنظيم بين الأطراف المتشاركة ومنظم الشبكة، حيث يقومُ منظمُ الشبكة بتعلم التشويش والتداخلاتِ المحتملة بين الجهات المتشاركة من خلال خوارزمية جديدة تسمى بخوارزمية (التطور في تلوين الأشكال)، وذلك لضمان الخصوصية وعدالة التقسيم لقنوات ومعداتِ الاتصال.
