According to Earley and Ang (2003), cultural intelligence (CQ) is a multifaceted construct composed of three facets: cognitive, motivational, and behavioral. Individuals in possession of high CQ are also more culturally competent, having higher effectiveness in the repertoire of the cognitive and the abilities to be productive and communicate more effectively with members of different cultural backgrounds than those in possession of lower CQ (Brislin, Worthley & MacNab, 2006). In the early developing stage of CQ, researchers and scholars employed students' samples and concluded that CQ was a critical skill set for college graduates to engage in the globalized business environment (Earley & Ang, 2003).On the one hand, CQ is an essential element for any individual to work successfully in any multicultural environment (Cole, 2011). On the other hand, Americans emphasize and treasure relationships between others; trust has an irreplaceable role in almost any dyadic relationship (Chanley, Rudolph, & Rahn, 2001). Scholars commonly agree that personality, culture, and experience influence the perspectives of trust profoundly (Korsgaard, Brower, & Lester, 2015). However, the efforts in academic research in the related areas have been relatively insufficient (Mendenhall et al., 2017).The main purpose of this quantitative research is to determine whether there is a relationship between cultural intelligence (independent variable) and trust between Chinese-Americans entrepreneurs and Anglo-American entrepreneurs (dependent variable). This research will use a quantitative design with the aides of CQS and IPIP Trust Scales Inventory. Another purpose is to fill the gap of empirical research aiming to discover the relationship between CQ and trust among the entrepreneurs or business leaders from the various cultural backgrounds (Ott & Michailova, 2018; Shakir & Lee, 2017).Based on the findings of this study, the researcher will recommend that entrepreneurs and multinational corporations provide additional training to their leaders and key employees to enhance their cultural competency and organizational effectiveness. In addition, since there is a significant gap in the literature in the field of cultural intelligence and trust, the researcher will suggest additional efforts to foster further empirical research to investigate the relationship between cultural intelligence and trust.
