With the increased use of adaptive learning technologies comes the need to not only evaluate whether these technologies impact student success, but also to discern whether these technologies aid the student in the concept mastery of promoting personalized learning. This quantitative study analyzed four specific aspects (academic achievements, dropout, completion, and passing rates) between students enrolled in an adaptive learning course and a traditional learning course, and among course type-course delivery methods. With a focus on adaptive learning, the study conducted an analysis on the satisfaction of students in use of an adaptive learning technology. The study population consisted of students enrolled in a Biology STEM course at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). One student group used an adaptive learning technology, while the other group did not. The study collected and analyzed final grades and survey results data, employing a 4-point Likert scale survey to assess students' level of satisfaction in use of the adaptive learning technology. Applying SPSS, the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis One-way ANOVA tests analyzed the final grades, while the Chi-square test identified the survey results.Findings revealed statistically significant differences in academic achievements, as well as completion and passing rates between course types and course types-course delivery methods. No statistically significant differences in dropout rates existed between the course types, yet the study found statistically significant differences among the course types-course delivery methods. Statistically, students enrolled in an adaptive learning course were the most favorably satisfied in using the adaptive learning technology. Overall, adaptive learning revealed higher academic achievements when compared to traditional learning. Keywords: adaptive learning, adaptive learning technology, learning style, personalized learning, and academic achievement.
