This research examined whether a series of cognitive behavioral therapy sessions (CBT) reduces stress and anxiety levels as monitored on the Electro-photonic imaging (EPI), heart rate variability (HRV) devices, and self-assessment questionnaires such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PhQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and The Social Readjustment Rating Scale which is more often now known as The Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale (HRSS).The purpose of this research was to determine, through observations of the EPI, HRV, and self-assessment tools whether CBT improved levels of mood, decreased levels of stress, and changed levels of energy in the biofield. Biofields are energy fields that surround and intermingle inside and outside the human body (Rubik, Pavek, Greene, Laurence, & Ward, 1995).The research design and strategy of this study was quantitative. The instruments levels of stress and anxiety were measured through use of the EPI, HRV, and PhQ-9/GAD-7 instruments. Thirty participants were recruited and offered four individual CBT sessions, and there was no control group. The study included adults from 21 to 65 years old looking toreduce their stress levels. The results revealed that CBT sessions for stress along with breathing techniques lowered the scores of the GAD-7 and PHQ-9, as well as HRV and EPI. The session by session results showed statistically significant change in GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores. There were statistically significant changes in HRV scores and in some EPI measurements such as emotional pressure, organ balance, nervous system, spleen, adrenals, ileum and the left side of the heart, and cardiovascular. Those with stress can also demonstrate noticeable levels of depression and/or anxiety levels. The study provides important implications to the field of stress, energy medicine, cognitive behavioural therapy and heart rate variability and on the inter-relationship between the mind and the body. Future research with a larger sample size would enhance the literature regarding assessing the possible differences of stress on men and women.
