The shrimp industry accounted for 15% of the total value of internationally traded fishery products in 2012. Feeds are often amongst the largest variable costs in shrimp aquaculture, representing up to 60% of total costs. Dietary protein provided by fishmeal is generally the main source of amino acids for the deposition of new muscular tissue and somatic growth, thus becoming a major limiting nutrient and an expensive cost in compound feeds.A possible alternative for this nutrient is glandless cottonseed meal (GCSM) obtained after oil extraction, which has a high protein content. Extrusion processing technology of aquaculture feed increases nutrients bioavailability by denaturalization of proteins and starch gelatinization. Therefore, it decreases the activity of enzymes, microorganisms, and toxins. The aim of this research will be to evaluate the effect of different ratios of glandless cottonseed meal and fish meal (FM) as the main protein source of a previously standardized shrimp feed on growth performance and in vitro digestibility of shrimp.Four GCSM based diets were developed. The first diet consists of 44% GCSM and 0% FM, the next diet consists of 33% GCSM and 11% FM, the next diet consists of 22% GCSM and 22% FM, the next diet consists of 11% GCSM and 33%FM, the last diet is an already commercial shrimp feed that will serve as the "Control Diet".
