The problem addressed by this study is that gender bias affects women in areas such as career advancement opportunities and access to management positions in the workplace. This persistent issue challenges women through various barriers in addition to the lack of having mentoring programs readily available. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative single case study was to expand upon the theory that women who receive mentoring from men in a male-dominated workplace have more flourishing career advancements and promotions while employed. Six out of 12 female Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Troopers and one out of three Lieutenants were recruited and participated through the OHP agency's e-mail directory. The findings fill a gap in literature by providing knowledge about the lack of formal mentoring programs in law enforcement in connection with the social role theory, role congruity theory, and social networking theory. The participants of this study depicted the notion that a mentoring program would be beneficial to reducing barriers and increasing females in management roles. Additionally, the results rendered that gender discrimination is still active in law enforcement. The types of barriers, the lack of management responsibility, and social networks are implications from this research study's results. Future research is suggested to take this research study father into analyzing society's perspective on gender and how gender roles permeate in law enforcement.
