Language-Specific Attention Treatment (L-SAT) (Peach, 2012) is a theoretically motivated, skill-based approach to the remediation of acquired language disorders associated with attentional impairment. Based on the unique manner in which language recruits attention, a language-specific approach to remediating attention deficits is warranted. The purpose of this study is to establish the validity and reliability of L-SAT, a rehabilitation program for language disorders that exploits language-specific attentional processing. Fourteen healthy adults were recruited for this study. L-SAT was correlated with known attention measures to investigate construct validity Test-retest, inter-rater, and intra-rater reliability were also assessed. Results indicated that the L-SAT possesses good construct validity and support the conclusion that L-SAT tasks recruit attentional resources for language processing. L-SAT also demonstrates excellent reliability. These results suggest that L-SAT has good psychometric characteristics and may offer a reasonable method for treating acquired language disorders due to brain injury.
