This dissertation utilizes a 2-in-1 format by combining two manuscripts within a dissertation. The first is a conceptual paper in which I provide a broad overview of the historical and sociopolitical background of Taiwan, trends in study abroad among Taiwanese students, and a review of the literature in the United States on the adjustment of Taiwanese international students. I then propose a Taiwanese International Bicultural Model to include underlying cultural factors derived from indigenous psychology that may affect adjustment. Finally, I provide research and practical implications on how to utilize this model.The second part of the dissertation is an empirical manuscript. I interviewed nine participants to explore the lived experience of Taiwanese international individuals in the United States. Specifically, this study utilized Consensual Qualitative Method to examine how participants' cross-national experience is related to their racial identity, Taiwanese identification, well-being, career choice, and social activism. Seven domains emerged from the data. Finally, implications and future directions for research and counseling are discussed.
