The goal of this research is to explore the concept "willingness for medical providers to adopt or intend to use telemedicine, telehealth, or e-Health" into their practice. The adoption of telemedicine and associated technologies used to deliver telemedicine was examined on a global level, using a systematic review of available research. The base model that was used to explore provider beliefs was the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This model and its variants explore several factors thought to influence the intent to use or the willingness to adopt telehealth technologies. A systematic review of existing global TAM or TAM variant research was used to evaluate perceptions of acceptance for telehealth technologies. A total of 103 studies were reviewed with 36 meeting the determined inclusion criteria. A thematic review was used to categorize the individual factors related to willingness to adopt telemedicine technologies into clinical practice. This study was intended to advance our understanding of the adoption for telemedicine among providers when including it into their practices. Several important themes emerged from this research. The outcomes tend to suggest that when applying research models to technology acceptance, regional differences and drivers of acceptance need to be taken into consideration. When using these models to validate and forecast future successful healthcare IT implementation, consideration for the region, audience, and relevance makes for successful project completion.
