Domestic violence is common in many households around the world. The roles of the perpetrator and the victim play an important part of looking at domestic violence and the changes that come about, especially when there are children involved. It is important to be aware of certain dynamics and factors that are associated with domestic violence. Each of the parties involved are affected by what domestic violence does to family systems. This includes children who are directly and indirectly involved. Research has shown that their environments directly affect children and when domestic violence is present; it may cause strain on the relationship with the parents. Research has focused more on the relationship between the children and the mother, but little research has focused on the relationship and perception of the violence of the fathers and their relationship with the children during and following the violence. Batterers' treatment programs were established to help bring awareness and decrease the batterers' violent behaviors by using theories from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. For this study, The Cognitive Assessment of Abusive Father's Questionnaire was used to assess batterers' perception of their children being exposed to the violence. Changes in batterers' perception was assessed by comparing to their responses before and after the intervention. No sufficient evidence of changes in the perception of the batterers was found, likely due to the limited number of participants. Although there were limited findings, future studies may find sufficient evidence with more participants.
