The number of consumers that use bank, debit, or credit cards (herein referred to as "bank cards") has grown tremendously. Consumers today use bank cards on a daily basis, some multiple times daily. The bank card transactional process has also made major changes over the years. The purpose of this study is to explore the consumers perceptions and understanding of the security of personal information in bank card transactional process at the point of sale. In recent years, the bank card process has eliminated the requirement of consumers providing identification at the point of sale, counter to the perceptions that security would have been increased due to the increase in transactions.A qualitative method was used to prove the hypothesis that bank card fraud was minimized or possibly eliminated if the requirement to show identification at the point of sale (POS) is restored to the bank card transactional process.
